Dusk
Dusk

Dusk

It isn’t everyday I get to live a sunset,
But whenever I do,
It would light up my mood for sure,
But not today.

Today,
It marks the end of a day that ended things for me,
Sent away the last few hopes I had,
Turned my dreams to dust,
And buried my spirit miles under the ground,
Too deep to be ever found.

I was chasing a fading ray of light,
Clinging desperately to the most distant possibility
Of living with a smile on my face,
Of toiling diligently to provide for someone
And moving along the gruesome journey of life,
With someone on my side,
Sharing the good and bad days.

I was certain that this was the last attempt,
And thus I gave my all to it,
Put my mind and heart into it,
So that when the last bit of light disappears,
And the dying sun sets in the pitch-black west,
I have nothing left in me to go on,
And my shoulders drop way lower than the sun can ever sink.

As the dead of the night sends evening,
Its weary messenger,
I greet it with a submitting certainty.
The air has a hint of the chill the winter will bring,
And me and the evening both walk
With dead spirits and cold hearts,
Into the dungeons of darkness.
