If You Love Them
Like a moth drawn to light,
I spread my wings and soared toward love,
And fell headfirst into it,
But it wasn’t what I had always expected.
I thought when we would fall in love together,
We both would have each other to enjoy our moments with,
It would be nice, and we’d both be happy,
And I will take care of you,
While you take care of me,
Life would be happier, I thought.
But loving turned out to be more than just spending moments together,
It means putting their happiness first,
It means silently hurting and not letting them know,
It means forgiving them when things go wrong,
And understanding that it’s not their mistake,
But the situations led to this,
And although it hurts you,
They are not at fault.
It hurts them as well,
thus, you should wipe your tears off,
And be their strength.
I realised if you love them,
You will have to be strong,
And wait for things to get clearer.
And if things don’t end in your favour,
You should be understanding,
And put their happiness first.
You should take care of yourself,
Because love is not about expecting care,
It is about sacrificing your happiness for them,
It is an act of selflessness.
